178 Johan Jacob WELSH, b. c1738, probably Germany, d. 13 Jan 1818, 80 yrs. old, in York, York County, PA, s/o Hans Wilhelm and _____? WELSH (356/357), m. (179) Catherine DANNER, d. 12 Aug 1818, York, PA, d/o Martin DANNER (358).  They are probably the Johan WELSH and Catherine DANNERIN who sponsored Johann, d/o Martin Englebrecht and Maria Elisabeth, his wife,  on 5 Oct 1760, before their marriage. On 23 Aug 1778, they sponsored an unnamed s/o Abraham DANNER. On 10 Aug 1794, John and Catherine sponsored Henrietta DOLL d/o Esther and Joseph DOLL, their grandchild; and on 4 Sep 1796, they sponsored Catherine EICHELBERGER, d/o Martin and Maria EICHELBERGER, another granddaughter.. His seven children were listed in his will in York, PA. As to the correct name for 178.5, Sarah WELSH, who m. Philip Adam ENLTER, Jr. The records in VA list her as Catherine, but the father's will listed her as Sarah. Her name was probably Sarah Catherine. 178.1 John WELSH, m. Sarah _____? This may be John WELSH,  whose estate was settled in Berkeley Co., VA on 4 Aug 1796. Named in the settlement is Margaret or Mary WELSH (now Mary MOLLER w/o Henry MOLLER; also named is Michael WELSH Sr., and Jacob WELSH. Henry MOLER'S will was written 14 Oct 1800, probated 26 Jan 1801, naming wife, Mary, child Mary, and step-children Daniel, Jacob, and Catherine WELSH. The executor of the will was wife Mary and John Haines; the witnesses were Jacob Alt, and John Moler. According to this will John WELSH had at least 3 children: (PAYOB4 G p116, 4 p116, 26, WVBEB15 p117, 130) Children:

178.3 Martin WELSH, d. bet. 26 Dec 1792 and 1 Oct 1794, VA, m. 8 Jul 1784, in First Trinity Reformed Church, York, York Co., PA, Elizabeth KRANTZ. His father's will indicates that Martin married and had children. Martin WELSH probably the settled in Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA, but the compiler has not found any proof to date.  An Orphans court record placed his son John in the guardianship of Michael WELSH of York Co., on 1 Oct 1794 after the death of his father. 178.4 Esther WELSH, m. Joseph DOLL, probably s/o Conrad and Elisabeth DOLL. Two of the children have been identified. On 28 Jan 1797, Joseph and Esther sponsored Lydia, d/o Johan and Susannah DOLL. According to an internet posting they may have lived in Harrisburg and had a son Samuel. The compiler has not found any information to support this posting (Jan 2011).
