He returned to Adams Co. in 1839, where he was in the mercantile business. He settled in Harrisburg Twp., Van Buren Co., in 1844 and was there in 1860. In 1867 he moved to Bonaparte Twp. where he was in 1870 and 1880. In 1880 George and Catherine 'Cassie' were still at home. They were members of the German Reformed Church. Note: This Francis HAMILTON through DNA is in question: From another researcher: "The DNA results from 3 donors (one descendent of Francis Hamiton 1802, another descendent to Francis Hamilton/Philpot's brother and another a descendent of George Hamilton/Lydia Baltzer) showed a much closer connection to a family (George Hamilton/Lydia Balzter) that immigrated around 1791 from northern Ireland instead of this Francis Hamilton/Philpott family which came from Mauchlone, Scotland. HAMILTON. In 1840 Francis was in Butler Twp., Darke Co., OH with 1 male 0-5 (George W), 1 male 30-40 (Francis), 1 female 5-10 (Sarah), 2 females 5-10 (Mary Ellen, Catherine Ann), 1 female 20-30 (Catherine). In 1850, he was farming in Monroe Twp., Preble Co., OH. In 1860-1870 Catherine was a widow living in Butler Twp., Darke Co.; in 1860 5 children are still home; in 1870 Lawrence and Jasper are home; and in 1880 Lawrence is in the home. Francis was a member of the Dunkard Church, and Catherine was United Brethren. Their son David N. enlisted in the 110th. Aug 1844, Preble Co., OH, buried 7 Mar 1822, Graceland Cem. He enlisted at age 21 in Co. H, 110th. OH Vol. Inf.  and served in MD and VA, and was discharged under a surgeon's certificate in 1863, then joined the OH National Guard, Co. B., 156th Reg. He was a miller and engineer, coming to Creston in 26 Feb 1872. He worked first for George A. Blackwell grain business, then Belden and Scott grain merchants. In 1874 he was city marshall, and in 1876 the land business with George D. Hendericks., later appointed city marshall and Street Commissioner. For a 3 years he joined C. E. Robbins operating  a soda bottling factory. In 1870_____(check 1870 census)_____

In 1880 he was coal oil merchant living in Creston. In 1900 he was described as a landlord. In 1910 he was living in the 1st. ward of Creston. In 1920 Isabel was widow living with her son Charles in the home. From 1900 through 1920 Harriet 'Hattie' Morrison was a servant in the home. He owned 440 acres in Lincon Twp., Taylor Co. They are buried in Graceland Cem., Creston. Note: There is a mistake in William's bio. It states that his father was b. in IRE, coming to Baltimore at age 9. The story may have been passed down by word of mouth, and mixed up with his great-grandfather, Francis HAMILTON (158) who was b. in Scotland, and probably came to Prince George's, MD, c1766, with his brother Alexander HAMILTON (316.1) (FH53, IAUB4-7, IAUNB1, 2, 6, 5 p578-582) Children:

In 1910 and 1920 they were living in the 1st. Ward of Creston, Union Co., IA. William was telegraph lineman in 1910, and an electric light lineman in 1920. At some time he worked as a timekeeper for the Burlington Railroad in Creston. They are buried in Graceland Cem., Creston, IA. (IAUN6-7, IAUNB6) Children:

Ward of Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH, where Jasper worked in a factory. In 1900 he was a streetcar conductor living in the 5th. Ward of Dayton, with Albert SCHLECHTY 27, a nephew in the home. Ward of Dayton, Montgomery Co., OH. William Pruden 56, a boarder, was in the home. In 1932 he was a clerk of the trustees of public affairs in Miamisburg, Montgomery Co.
