38 Lewis NEILL, b. 1793, Frederick Co., VA, s/o Abraham and Rachel (WOODROW) NEILL (76/77), d. 16 May 1844, Jefferson Co., VA, m. 12 May 1818, Jefferson Co., WV, (39) Corbina E(lizabeth?) BAKER, b. c1793, Jefferson Co., VA, d/o Walter and Magdalena (HAMILTON) BAKER (78/79), d. 7 Apr 1871, Charles Town, Jefferson Co., WV. Lewis received the land he owned at Duffields, Jefferson Co., totaling 390 acres, lying on Elk Branch, about 6 miles from Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co. from his father Abraham Neill for $1, who resided in Frederick Co., VA. In 1820 through 1880, Lewis and Corbina were living in Jefferson Co., WV.  In 1820 there were 2 males 26-45, 1 male 45 and up, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 10-16, 1 female 16-26, and 11 slaves of various ages; in 1830 there was 1 male 0-5, 1 male 5-10; 1 male 30-40; 2 females 5-10; 1 female 20-30; in 1840 1 male 0-5; 1male 10-15; 1 male 15-20; 1 male 40-50; 1 female 0-5; 2 females 5-10; 2 females 15-20; 1 female 30-40; 1 slave. In 1850 Corbina is a widow with most of her children still living at home. In 1860 and 1870, Bessie MCCORMICK, was living with Corbina. In 1870, Rose King, a domestic servant, Richard King, a farm laborer, and Hetty Staley age 10, were also in the home. In The list of children came from a parchment of paper the compiler's grandfather, R. W. MORROW of Shepherdstown, WV, gave him in the early 1960s. At his death, his will devised that the entire estate was to be left jointly to his wife and son Lewis, to be used for the benefit of the whole family, and upon his wife's death, all property was to be equally divided  among his children. WILL: Lewis NEILL: Wife Corbina E., and son Lewis received the whole of the estate for the common use, support, and maintenance of the whole family; after death of the wife, the estate to be equally divided among all the children. In Lewis' words, "My beloved wife Corbina E. having been the devoted and faithful partner of my life, and having watched over and nursed me in my most affectionate manner during my protracted illnesses. I am unwilling to leave her to the portion of my estate  provided by law, I do here fore desire and bequeath to her and my son Lewis NEILL, jointly my estate, both real and personal.....". BIBLE RECORD:This is not a true Bible record, but a copy of an old paper in the hands of the compiler, given to him by R. W. MORROW (1888-1970), of Shepherdstown, WV. He was not sure of the relationship, but thought it was some of his mother's people. It was in fact the family of his maternal grandmother, Lydia Magdalina NEILL, w/o Henry Martyn WALTON.;-Ann Elizabeth NEILL b. 3-27-1819, 20 min. after 7 o'clock PM, d. March 2nd. 1829 about 30 min. after 2 o'clock AM, aged 9 months, 3 days, was taken sick on the first day of March, died in a few hours; -Lewis NEILL was born March 16th., 18822, five o'clock PM, m. Mary Louisa TAYLOR; -Mary NEILL was born on Jul 9th., 18223, ten min. before 12 o'clock PM; -Lydia Magdaline NEILL was born Januaary 3, 1825; George Walter  NEILL was born Feburary, 22nd. , 1827, m. E. W. Shepherd, Feburary 13th. 1861; -A son was born Oct. 31st., 1829, a son diedd Nov. 6th., 1829, about 2 o'clock PM 1829 (unnamed); -Sarah Ann NEILL was born Nov 8th., 11829, died February 24th., 1853, about 11 o'clock PM, m. William MCCORMICK, November 10th. 1848; -Virginia Liv. NEILL, b. Feburary 27tth. 1832, died July 17th., between 6 and 7 o'clock PM, aged 3 years, 3 months, 1 day, evening 1835; -Julia Elizabeth NEILL b. 4-16-1837; -Corbina S. NEILL n. 707-1839-Charles Edwin NEILL b. 8-30-1843, died on Friday September 19th., 1851, a few minutes after 10 o'clock in the morning. (BR6)

38.7 Sarah Ann NEILL, b. 8 Nov 1829, d. 24 Feb 1853, m. 30 Nov 1848, at Montview, Shenandoah Junction, Jefferson Co., VA, William MCCORMICK, b. 15 Sep 1826, "Clermont", d. 3 Mar 1855. He was a member of the Frederick Volunteers during the Mexican War. He farmed at "Meadow View" in Clarke Co., VA (BR6, VAB6). Children:

38.7a Elizabeth "Bessie" Taylor MCCORMICK,  b. 1 Jan 1852, VA, m. 1 Jan 1852, Berryville, Clarke Co., VA, Province MCCORMICK, b. 18 Feb 1847, Hawthorn, Clarke Co..  In 1880, they were living in Battletown District, Clarke Co., VA. In the household were a number of people; Lilly WALTON (9) age 17 (should be 12), the future wife of R. W. MORROW of Charles Town, WV. Her parents both died in 1877, and Lilly was probably sent to live with Bessie MCCORMICK, who was her first cousin. Also were a number of black workers: Louisa Brown 59, b. VA, servant; Martha Brown 9, b. VA; William Brown 14, b. VA, servant; Scott Butler 28, b. VA, laborer, and Henry Waters 26, b. VA, laborer. Province MCCORMICK, granduated from University of VA, joined the Confederate Army at age 16, and served throughout the war. He was a U.S. Indian Inspector in the west after the war, but returned to Clarke Co., where he farmed. (VAB6, VACL7) Children:

38.7a1 Ann Conway MCCORMICK, b. 25 Apr 1873, Hawthorn, Clarke Co., VA, m. 9 sep 1896, Rev. John Bronough HENRY, b. 16 Dec 1870, Warrenton, Fauquier Co., VA, s/o Rev. Edward Hugh and ___ (STONE) HENRY. He was minister at Gardenville, MD. Gardenville may have be an unincorporated town in Charles Co., MD. (VAB6) Children:

38.10 Samuel B. NEILL, b. 14 Jul 1837, Jefferson Co., m. 2 Feb 1881, Charles Town, Ida M. HILL, b. c1857, Jefferson Co. In 1880 Samuel Was boarding in a hotel run by Mrs. A. Adams in Potomac, Jefferson Co. He was a lawyer. Ida was not present in this census. It is possible that the marriage date is incorrect.  (BR6, WVBE1, WVJE15)
