8-Ruthvan Wellington MORROW, b. 31 Jul 1853, Summit Point, Jefferson Co., WV, s/o Joseph MORROW & Mary Ann (DOWNS) MORROW (16/17), d. 16 Dec 1900, Charlestown, Jefferson Co., WV, m. (9) Lilly (Lily, Lillie) Muse WALTON (18/19), b. Oct 1868, Duffields, Jefferson Co., WV, d/o Henry Martyn & Lydia Magdalena (NEILL) WALTON, d. 1904, Charles Town, Jefferson Co., WV. Both are buried in Edge Hill Cemetery, Charles Town, WV. According to son R. W., the senior R. W. went west as a young man, but returned to Jefferson Co. Quite possibly he went to Missouri where his older half-brothers, William Hamilton and John James resided. He returned to Jefferson Co. prior to 1880, where he appears in the 1880 census with his parents, listed as planter. He taught school in Shepherdstown, WV, between 1880 and 1886, when he married. After his marriage, the couple resided in Jefferson County all of their married life. Early in their marriage, they lived at WHITE HOUSE FARM in Summit Point. This farm came to R. W. from the estate of his father's first wife Eleanor LOCK. Around 1890, before the birth of their next child Evarts, they moved to Charles Town, at the time  R. W. bought the local newspaper. He was an ardent Democrat, free silver man and a follower of William Jennings Bryan. The story goes that he was Bryan's WV Campaign Manager and may have been in Bryan's cabinet had Bryan won the presidential election. (the compiler has no corroborating evidence of this.) He bought the WV Democrat paper in Charles Town in 1890, changing the name to the Farmer's Advocate, a paper representing interest in the Farmer's Alliance, a grange type organization. He was elected to two terms in the WV State Legislature, in 1899 and 1990. He attended the Democratic national Convention in Kansas City, MO, in 1900, where his brother, William Hamilton was also a delegate from Pike Co., MO. He died in 1900, of pneumonia after riding a bicycle on a cold December morning  (son R. W.),  before he could serve the second term. Little is know about Lilly. She was the granddaughter of William Claiborne WALTON, a well-known Presbyterian evangelist of the 1830s and 40s. She was at one time a governess for a Shirley family in Charles Town, two of whom were Henry and Lucy. Lily lost both of her parents in 1877 within a week of each other. In 1880 she was living in Clarke Co., VA, with Province and Elizabeth 'Bessie' MCCORMICK, her first cousin. She also died at an early age of ruptured appendix. The children were farmed out to relatives and most of their memories of family died with their parents. HISTORY
R. W. MORROW 1853-1900: Feb 1885, the WV Democrat was established at Charles Town by D. S. Eichelberger and Everett W. Bedinger. In 1887, it was acquired by James M. Mason Sr., who published the paper until 1890 at which time it was obtained by R. W. MORROW. The name changed to Farmer's Advocate and was known by that name until 1948, when it merged with the Spirit of Jefferson. The Farmer's Advocate, a weekly paper published and edited by Mr. Ruthven MORROW supplied the county news and gave direction to rural thinking with spirited editorials. R. W. MORROW was elected to two terms in the WV State Legislature, 1899 and 1900, died before taking office the second term. For a time the paper under R. W. MORROW represented interest in the Farmer's Alliance, a grange type organization. Clark McClure Wetzel was chosen at a special election to succeed R. W. MORROW as Jefferson County's member to the House of Representatives. (WVJEB1).

He married or lived with Pauline BERGEN. Very little is known about Evarts life after he left home. He lived in Miami, was a pharmacist, never communicated with the brothers and sisters except in time of illness or death. It is reported that he was an alcoholic, not uncommon affliction in the family, including the compiler of this history.. Mary Neill MORROW CAMPBELL, the younger sister came to live with him when it was revealed that she had terminal cancer. Edward Moore MORROW, who worked in Miami  before and after WWII for the Coca Cola, said that Evarts and Pauline BERGEN were never married. The compiler (at age 8) met him on a family trip to FL in 1946, and wrote to him about the genealogy in the early 1960s, seeking information, and never heard from him, as predicted by the compiler’s grandmother, Louise (LICKLIDER) MORROW (4/5).
