The Family of Hanson Thomas MORROW
and Jane A. BROWN

32.6 Hanson Thomas MORROW, b. 4 Mar 1814, Frederick Co., MD, s/o James and Sarah (HARTSOCK) MORROW, d. 8 Feb 1895, at his home in Canton, Lewis Co., MO, m. 4 Feb 1840, Lewis Co., Jane Amanda BROWN (sister of brother Asbury MORROW's wife Sarah Louise BROWN) b. 6 Oct 1823, Shenandoah  Co., VA, d/o Jacob BROWN (and sister of Sarah BROWN who m.  brother Asbury MORROW), d. 5 Aug 1889, age 65y 9m 29d, Canton, MO of flux. Both are buried in Forest Grove Cemetery, Canton, MO. Hanson left VA before 1840. He appears on the personal property tax list in Jefferson Co., VA in 1835 and 1837. In 1835 he was taxed on 1 white male over 16, and in 1837, 2 horses, mares, etc., then in 1840 he is in Clark Co., MO, married, with 1 male 20-30 (Hanson T.), 1 female 15-20 (Jane A.), and living a few houses away F. B. S. MORROW, his younger brother, who returned to Berkeley Co., VA, probably before 1850. By 1850, they had moved to Lewis Co., MO, in the vicinity of Canton. In 1850 through 1880, he was farming in Lewis Co. In 1870 Washington MORROW, a wagon maker, supposedly b. in KY is in the household. In 1880, Mary MORROW  20, b. VA, a niece with a child Ma___?, age 1, b. IL, is in the household. The compiler has been unable to tract this niece beyond the 1880 census, but strongly believes this is one of the missing daughters (May Irene) of Joseph Randolph MORROW (#16.4), his nephew, and granddaughter of Hanson’s  brother Joseph MORROW of Summit Point, Jefferson Co., WV. The age is right, and she appears to have had a child out of wedlock, and may have been sent to Missouri for that reason. Another compelling piece of information was that F. B. S. MORROW in Berkeley Co., was appointed guardian for one of more of those missing daughters. In the census records his occupation is listed as farmer. In his obituary, he is described as a pioneer citizen of Lewis Co., and member of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, for 50 years.
