The Family of Gottfried MONG
and Maria Barbara JESSERANG
(9th Generation)

396 Gottfried MONG (MANG, VON MANG), bpt. 16 May 1712, Trippstadt, Palatine, Germany, s/o Johan Theobald and Maria Barbara (LINN) MONG (792/793), d. cApr 1750, Leitersburg, Washington Co., MD, m. 18 Jan 1735, Thaleischweiler, Germany, (397) Maria Catherine JESSERANG, b. 14 Apr 1715, Pirmasens, Germany, d/o Bartholomew JESSERANG (794). They came to America 3 Sep 1739, and after several years in York, PA, they came with the JESSERANGS to Frederick Co., MD, where they settled between Smithsburg and Leitersburg, now Washington Co., MD. Gottfied bought from John Charlton 100 acres called Delight located on Tichums Branch. In his will he left his estate to his wife and children (unfortunately not named). His widow m. c1756, George WOLHEITER and by him had one son, Adam. George WOLHEITER d. bef. 12 Aug 1766. Maria Barbara WOLHEITER'S will dated 7 Jun 1774 names the children: Theobald MONG and Adam WOLHEITER; Eva received movables; daughter wife of Peter FRANCH, 1 shilling; to daughter Barbara HUBER'S two children, 1 shilling each. 5 pounds to Catherine JESSERONG, daughter of brother Daniel, or else a cow and a calf. The will was proved 28 Aug 1774. (MDB6 v7)

THE CHILDREN: Some researchers have included George Nicholas MONG as a son. Thus far, I have found only circumstancial evidence. George Nicholas lived in the same vicinity of Washington Co., MD as Gottleib. At the baptism of George Nicholas' daughter Maria Magdalena, Maria Catharina JESSERAN was a sponsor. One of the problems that exist is that the dates are suspect. George Nicholas was supposedly b. in 1730 in Germany, but Gottfried married Maria Barbara JESSERANG in 1735. If Gottlief and Maria's dates are correct, he would have been 18, she 15, not impossible.. There is the possibility that Gottlieb was married prior to he marriage to Maria JESSERANG, and that George Nicholas was a son by that marriage, or he was brother of Goffried. This might account for why George Nicholas was not named in Maria Barbara WOLHEITER'S will as one of her children. (MDB2 v10 p106, 6, Vol.7, 1991 p101, 26 p162, MDWAB10) If the reader has proof of the relationship between George Nicholas MONG and Gottfried MONG, this compiler would welcome it. Providing that he his a child, the list of children would look like this:
