28 John William MILLER, b. 8 Oct 1812, Berkeley Co., VA, s/o John C. and Mary Maria (KAIN) MILLER (56/57), d. 11 Dec 1891, Berkeley Co., WV, age 78y 2m 1d, m. 22 May 1844, Berkeley Co., (29) Mary MCALLISTER, b. 11 Jan 1818, Berkeley Co., VA, d/o Christopher and Barbara (HELM) MILLER (58/59), d. 23 Oct 1865, Berkeley Co., WV. The suretor for the marriage was Benjamin MCALLISTER, the minister was John Light. Both are buried in Little Georgetown Cemetery, Berkeley Co., WV. John W. MILLER m. 2nd., Margaret Elizabeth WILLSON b. 1830, d. 14 Dec 1915, at the home of her son, William A. MILLER, Berkeley Station, Berkeley Co. She is believed to have been from Frederick Co., VA. John MILLER farmed and lived in the Little Georgetown area of Berkeley Co., WV. There was a going friendly argument amongst the great uncles, Guy (#14.6) and Ed (Howard, #14.8) as to whether John W. MILLER above was really John William or John Wesley. Guy's middle name was William (family bible, and his statement), and not Guy Wesley as Uncle Ed thought it ought to be, therefore believing that Guy was named for his grandfather, John Wesley. In the 1880 census, John reported himself as William MILLER, which should settle the argument. The first 6 children by his first wife; the last 4 by the second wife. In 1850, John was farming in District 9, Berkeley Co. with Daniel Eversole 15, and Henry C. MCALLISTER in the household. In 1860 they were living in North Mt. Depot, Berkeley Co. Samuel Patch 15, a laborer and Susan NICHOLS were in the home. In 1870 they were living in Hedgesville. (MDALB8, O2, 13, PI23, 34, 36, 51, WVBE1, 3, 5, 11-14) Children:

Family tradition, related to the compiler by his grandmother, Rosa Cecelia MILLER MYERS (#6), Amos MILLER went west as a young man and was killed at the Battle of Little Big Horn. The compiler checked this story out at the battlefield in 1981. There were several MILLERS, and some A. (initials only) MILLERS on the 7th Calvary list of dead from the battle, but no conclusive proof that Amos was one of them. In 1995, I received a list of 7th. Calvary Soldiers, but still not Amos MILLER. A distant cousin (Ron KAYLOR, #28.5c6a, of Severna Park, MD) related that his grandfather has told him that after such devastating events, there were panhandlers or bums who would show up at the homes of families who had a relative missing, claiming to have know the party in question, giving news to get a place to sleep and eat for a few days. Such may be the case with Amos MILLER. (PI23, 49, 51)
