14 John Robert MILLER, b. 12 Aug 1850, Berkeley Co., VA s/o John William and Mary (MCALLISTER) MILLER (28/29), d. 12 Jan 1929, age 78, Opequon District, Berkeley Co., m. 12 Feb 1880, Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., WV, by John K. Nelson, to (15) Amanda Virginia TABLER, b. 7 Feb 1860, Berkeley Co., d/o Joshua G? and Mary (MOORE) TABLER (30/31), d. 5 Oct 1937, Jefferson Co., at the home of her son William Emmert MILLER. Both are buried in Smoketown Cemetery, south of Martinsburg, on WV Rt. 45 (Shepherdstown Road). John Robert MILLER, was born and raised in the Little Georgetown section of Berkeley Co., and  was a farmer most of his life. He and Amanda were life long residents of Berkeley Co., WV. The compiler's mother, Martha MYERS MORROW, remembers him as being a grandfather, who was always interested his children and grandchildren, and who was always doing little things that were beyond the norm. He always went barefooted in the summer, even in the stubble of the hayfield, claiming that the body received electricity through the ground. His son Ed (Howard Edgar MILLER) says he went to town, once a year, had his beard shaved off and got drunk. On his return, Amanda wouldn't let him in the house when he was drinking, so he would go down into the woods behind the house, where you could hear him yelling, "lost man, John R. MILLER, lost in the woods, " over and over again. His daughter Cecelia, would respond by crying, because he shaved off his beard. When the children were small, they lived in Martinsburg, where he worked on the B&O Railroad for awhile, and hauled junk for a dollar a day. When Martha MYERS was a child, John R. and Amanda lived in a little house next to the school house, the buildings north of Merce MYERS, who married daughter Rosa Cecelia,  in the Swan Pond area. Amanda would act as a substitute teacher if for some reason the teacher couldn't get there. Being that close to the MYERS farm, meant that Martha, her brother Kenneth, could walk up to the house as small children. As soon as they entered the house, John R, would yell to Amanda, "Ginny, these kids look hungry, get them some apple butter bread." He must have been a gentle man from all reports, and the trait passed to his sons, who were always glad to see you, and always interested in what you were doing. According to Martha (MYERS) MORROW, Amanda Virginia lived with son William Emmert near Shepherdstown after the death of John R. and was there in1930. In 1900 John R. was farming in Opequon District, Berkeley Co., WV. (BR12, O13, PI12, 23, 34, 36, WVBE1, 3, WVJE14)) Children;
