In 1775 the partitioning of Savage Grant in Cabell Co., VA, gave James lots 33 and 34 which included the mouth of Twelve Pole and four Pole Creeks. In 1782-1787, paid tax on 1 pole 6 slaves in Berkeley Co., VA. On 27 Oct 1817 James and Jemima, his wife, sold to Eli MCCORMICK 1200 acres of land which included the heads of Twelve Pole and Four Pile Creeks, and in which James reserved 300 acres for himself. James' will was written 25 May 1837, mentions land on the Ohio river in Cabell Co.; son John, executor was given slave David; sons Levi, David, Charles in IN, Isaac, and George given slave Moses; daughter w/o James POGUE given old servant Moses and wife; daughter Jane given Negro girl Lucinda; Henry POGUE s/o William POAGUE; the children of Eli, dec.; daughter Sarah FOSTER; daughter Jemima POGUE, daughter Jane MCCORMICK; Solomon Thornburgh named executor; witnesses Robert H. Little and Benjamin F. Seevers; the will was recorded 25 Jan 1841; security Strother Bell, Isaac MCCORMICK, and Otway MCCORMICK. On 11 Feb 1841 the estate was appraised and inventoried, included the farm and household items totaling $1304.62, and was recorded 28 Jan 1841; The sale on 15 Feb 1841 totaled $1247.80 1/4, was recorded 28 Jun 1841. A sale recorded 27 Mar 1843 left the executor $169.73. A sale recorded 25 Oct 1852, distributed to James POGUE and wife, John MENETT and wife, and William FOSTER and wife. 302.1d Levi MCCORMICK b. 12 Jun 1786, d. 14 Nov 1868, age 82y 5m 2d, m. Phebe STUART (STEWART), b. Frederick Co., VA.. Levi was a justice in Cabell Co. Court, and sheriff fro 1834 to 1836. He is buried in Spring Hill Cem., Cabell Co., WV. there is a 'Phebe' buried with him, which is probably his wife. At some time, they lived in the part of Cabell Co. that became Wayne Co., VA. In 1850 John was farming in Cabell Co., VA. By his first wife he had two children who died early. He migrated west first settling in Andrew Co., MO. In 1853 or 1854 John was one of the first settlers to take claim of a 160 acre quarter section of land in Riley Co., KS, on the river bottom south of the Kansas River. He returned to VA and came back to KS with oxen and equipment in 1855, making the first wagon tracks across the Pottawatomie Reservation. He hauled supplies from St. Joseph, Buchanan Co., MO, and specialized in livestock, introducing horses, cattle, and mules to the county. In 1880 John was farming in Zeandale Twp., Riley Co., KS. In 1860 John was farming in Wabaunsee Co., KS, with Henry  W. MCCORMICK 37, a farmer in the household. In 1800 he was described as a landlord living in Clay Center, Clay Co., KS, with Mary K. STRASSER, his daughter, and his son-in-law, William A. STRASSER in the household. Ward of Maysville, with Phoebe Hill 42, his sister-in-law, and Annie Marshall 24, a servant in the household. the Pogue family distillery operated in Maysville from 1876 to the 1930s. Their brands, Oldtime, Old Pogue, Old Barnes were bourbon whiskies, and Old Maysville Club, a rye, were sold to Schenley Distributors.
