The Family of Conrad LICKIDER
and Anna Magdalena FROSHOUR
(7th. Generation)

80  Conrad LICKLIDER, b. 1761/63, s/o Johan Conrad and Maria Barbara (MULLER) LICKLIDER (160/161), d. 22 Dec 1844, Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA, m. 1787, Frederick Co., MD,  (81) Anna Margaretha FROSHOUR b. Jul 1769, d. 12 Jan 1843, age 73y, d/o Jacob and Anna Maria (GERNHART) FROSHOUR (162/163). Conrad's brother Jacob inherited the land from his father in Frederick Co., MD, and sold the land to his mother and to Conrad and another brother, Peter, on 1 Mar 1787, described as all the tract of land called 'Green Springs', all of 'Small Street', and part of 'The First Dividend'. At the death of the mother, the land was equally divided between Conrad and Peter, who in turn sold the land in 1803 and 1806. Conrad was in Jefferson Co., WV, and Peter was in Hampshire Co., WV. at the time. In 1790 through 1830 Conrad was in Frederick Co, and had in 1790, 2 males under 16, 2 males 16-26, and 2 females in the household. In 1800 he was in Emmitsburg, Frederick Co., with 4 males 0-10, 1 male 10-16, 1 male 36-45, 3 females 0-10, and 1 female 26-45, and 1 slave. zin 1810 through 1840 he was in Jefferson Co., VA. In 1810 there were 4 males 0-10, 3 male 10-16, 1 male 16-26, 1 male 45 and up, 2 females 0-10, 1 femlae 10-16, 1 female 16-26, 1 female 26-45, and 5 slaves. In1820 there were 1 male 0-10, 3 males 191-5, 2 males 16-25, 2 males 45 and up, 1 female 0-10, 1 female 101-15, 1 female 16-25, and 1 female 45 and up; In 1830 there were 3 males 20-30, 1 male 66-70, 1 female 15-20, 1 female 20-30, and 1 female 60-70. In 1840 1 male 70-80, 1 female 15-20, and 1 female 70-80.  Conrad had a large estate, stone house, slaves, orchards, and a race track. Conrad's estate appraisal below under estate records gives the reader an idea of the kind of activities that took place on a farm and in the home of the period. The 218 acre farm, 'Springdale' on Flowing Springs Road 1/2 mile south of Shepherdstown, was appraised at $40 per acres, worth $8720 c1845. The house is now on the National Historical List. According to a descendant in Jefferson Co., the same land today (2003) would be worth between 1 and 2 million dollars. In his will he left all of his property and monies to his widow, Margaret, and after her death, the properties were to be sold, and distributed equally to his children or heirs. The inventory and appraisal of Conrad's estate is a good example of items and values of the day. From 1847 through 1851 there are several accounts for his estate. They are buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Cem., Shepherdstown, WV. (FH18, MDB38, MDFR2-3, 8, WVJEB6, WVJE8-11)
