They were both residents of Jefferson Co., when they married. Both are buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Shepherdstown, WV. E. T. LICKLIDER was born in the old Joseph ENTLER Hotel (the LICKLIDER Home, a gray building on German Street, the second house on the west side of German Street from the four way stop) in Shepherdstown. He sold machinery for D. M. Osborne Farm Implements, and farmed for 20 years outside of Shepherdstown on the road to Kearneysville. For a number of years he operated the LICKLIDER Corporation with his son Harry. The business failed during the depression. At that time the Mary A., the stay at home daughter, and the teaching daughters, Florence, Bess and Ruth bought the LICKLIDER house  (once Joseph ENTLER'S Hotel) for their father, and spent the rest of their lives after retirement there. As each daughter died, she left the house to the remaining daughters. Ruth the last to die left the house to Ikie ATHEY. At the death of his son Harry in 1938, at age 74, he was appointed postmaster of Shepherdstown in his son's place, the oldest person to ever have been appointed to the position. He was secretary of Morgan Grove Fair Association for a number of years, Post Grand Patriarch of WV State Encampment-Odd Fellows, a term ending in 1915. He was a member of the Methodist Church Board of Stewards, and served 10 years on the Board of Directors-Odd Fellows Home in Elkins, WV. He served as a town Councilman in Shepherdstown. E. T. was 8 years at the outbreak of the Civil War. He heard the guns of the Battle of Antietam in Sharpsburg and witnessed the coming and goings of troops to the battlefield and the thousands of wounded who were brought back to Shepherdstown. From the scrapbooks, a newspaper clipping revealed that when E. T. was a young man, he and others were went up and down the street in the dead of night to yell fire when his father's smoke house caught on fire and lit up the neighborhood. You will notice that three of the daughter below married into the MORROW family. Louise,  m.  Ruthvan W. MORROW, and Reika, m. William H. MORROW, brothers, while Anna Virginia m. Joseph R. MORROW, a half-first cousin to the bothers. William H. MORROW, and another brother, Evertt, were housed with the LICKLIDER family during part of their youth after the death of their parents. In 1910 and 1920 they were living in Shepherdstown District, Jefferson Co., WV, with Joseph MORROW, in the home. (BR8, O12, PI30, WVJE1-3, 15-17, 18) Children:

She was counted twice in the 1920 census, once at home in Shepherdstown, and the other as a roomer with M. M. Wicklen, in Charlestown, Kanawha Co., WV The error probably occurred when she went home for the summer vacation to Shepherdstown, was counted there, and then reported by the Wicklens in Charleston where she roomed during the school months. You will see that the same thing happened with her sister Ruth LICKLIDER #10.13 below. Both of them use to come home for the summer when schools were out, which is probably the reason they were counted twice. When Bessie died, she left the share in the LICKLIDER home, to Mary A., her sister that had already died, and her two surviving sisters, Florence and Ruth. (O12, WVKA1WVJE2, 19, 21)
