Susannah LIGHT, b. ___?, d.c1835, Berkeley Co., , d/o Peter and ____ LIGHT
(230/231). On 26 May 1776, Daniel witnessed a
deed between John Grice and Michael McKown. On 17 Jun 1778 he witnessed a deed
between Simon and Lawrence Linder, and on 17 Aug 1778 a deed between William
Bailey and Benjamin LIGHT. In Feb 1778 he bought for 60lb. Lot No.
57 in Martinsburg, Berkeley Co., from Philip Pendleton. On 19 May 1779 he bought
from William Murphy and wife, Martha, Lot No. 98 in Martinsburg. On 16 May 1780
he witnessed a deed between Tunis Quick and Jacob Bell. He apparently witnessed
a deed on 21 Oct 1780 involving Lot No. 5 and 6 in Martinsburg for Simon Miller,
and with several others including Peter LIGHT appraised the slave estate
of Nicholas Orrick. On 13 Oct 1781 Daniel's estate was appraised by William
Porterfield and Peter LIGHT. A final audit of his estate was completed on
22 Oct 1798, 17 years after his death. According to family tradition, he died
from a fall from a bridge. He was listed as a taxpayer in Berkeley Co., in the
1782-1787 tax period (probably his estate). Susannah is also listed in the same
period. By 1783 Susannah m. 2nd. 13 Feb 1783, Henry MYERS (#192.4), s/o
Dietrick MYERS. Susannah had 5 children by Daniel KAIN and 2 by

114.3 James KANE, b. 17 Feb 1778, Berkeley Co., VA, d. 14 Apr 1848, Perry Twp., Hocking Co., OH, m. 10 Feb 1810, Berkeley Co., Elizabeth MILLER. The suretor for the marriages was Henry MYERS, James' step-father, and the minister was Rev. Reebenack. James inherited land in Mercer Co., KY, from his uncle, James W. LIGHT. After his marriage in 1810, he moved to Fairfield Co., OH, d. 14 Apr 1848 in Perry Twp., Hocking Co., OH. They had 5 children. Two have been identified. The Ohioans changed the spelling for the most part to KANE. (LE52, WVBE1) Children:

114.3a James KANE b. c11813, VA, d. 1884. In 1860 and 1880, he was a gunsmith living with his brother Peter's family in Perry Twp., Hocking Co., OH. Whether he married and had children is not known. (OHHO6, 8)
114.3b Peter KANE b. 26 May 1816, Fairfield Co., OH, m. 9 Apr 1846, Mary PICKLE, d/o Jacob and Elizabeth PICKLE. At age 16 he started working as a gunsmith. After his marriage he worked the home place until 1849. In 1849 he bought and farmed 332 acres, but still was a gunsmith. In 1860 through 1880 they were living in Perry Twp., Hocking Co., OH. In 1860 and 1880 his brother, James, a gunsmith was in the home. In the 1880 census there are 3 minor children (Carrie 1, Dora 1m, and John 1m) in the household, but it unclear whose children they are. In 1910 Carrie is 31 living with her uncle Jacob KANE. By process of elimination they probably were the children of son Oliver. There was no mother listed. (OHHOB7, 8, OHHO6, 8, OHSS1 p1220) Children:
