GAEISS (354/355), d. 4 a.m., 21 Nov 1762, York, PA, buried Christ Reformed Cemetery, York, PA.  The marriage is also recorded in the New Holland Lutheran Church, Lancaster Co., PA, with the name spelled ZENDTLER. Philip Adam ENTLER was among Palatines imported on Ship Snow Molly, John Howell, Master, from Amsterdam, last from Dover, and is listed in signers of Oath of Allegiance. He arrived in the colonies In 1736 with a certificate that he had completed 3 years as an apprentice butcher to Johannes ENDLER, butcher. Johannes may have been his father or an uncle still in GER. This document was in the hands of a descendant in Jefferson Co., WV. Margaret GAEISS came to Pennsylvania in 1738 without her parents. Her death notice in Christ Lutheran Church records in York, PA states that she had by ENTLER, 6 sons and 3 daughters. On 15 Jul 1759, Philip and Maria witnessed the bpt. of Elizabeth UHLER, d/o Dieter and Margretha UHLER, and on 14 Nov 1762, Andreas UHLER d/o Dieter and Margaretha. He m., 2nd., bef. 1778, Magdalena PETER, d/o Philip PETER, brick maker of York Town, York Co.,  PA. There was one son born to this union, who died in infancy. Margretha sponsored the baptism of a child of Martin WEICHEL in 1750. On 6 Mar 1759, Philip of Manchester Twp, yoeman sold to William Shryner for 90 pounds lot No. 124 in York.  He was naturalized at the Supreme Court on 10  Apr 1760 in Philadelphia, PA. Margaretha ENDLER sponsored the child of Martin WEICHEL in 1760. On 3 Sep 1761, he sold to Mathias Smyser for 490 pounds 100 acres in Manchester Twp., York Co. On 13 Dec 1770, Philip bought 1/2 of lot no. 108 in York, PA, for 425 pounds from inn holder Joseph Smith and wife Barbara. On 18 Jan 1763 bought from Hermanus Bott, Manchester Twp., for rent and services 2 lots part of tract of 297 aces in Manchester Twp, York Co. On 7 Aug 1775, Philip and Magdalena sold to Conrad Leher for 35 pounds, lot No. 174 in York from the exectors of Philip PETER, Magdalena's father. In 1879 he was taxed 28 pounds for 1 house , 1/2 lot in York, and on 20 May 1779 Philip and Magdalena sold to Jacob ENDLER, Yorktown, breeches maker for 800 pounds 1/2 Lot 108, York, lot Philip bought from Joseph and Eleanor Smith. On 20 Sep 1781 Philip ENDLER, York Town, butcher and wife Magdalena, sold to Michael WELSH for 15 pounds, 2 easterly feet of 1/2 lot No. 108 in York, part of lot Philip bought from Joseph and Barbara Smith. In 1782 Philip probably migrated to Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA. On 6 Apr 1793, Philip witnessed the will of Nicholas Young. On 21 Jan 1793 and 20 Apr 1789,  Philip named in settlement of George Adam OLLER'S (see #122) estate. On 1 Jul 1799 Elizabeth Kerney left a deed to Philip ENTLER in her will. 176.2-John Martin ENTLER, b. 28 Mar 1742, York, PA, baptized 7 Apr 1742, Christ Lutheran Church, York, d. 16 Dec 1811, Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., WV, m. Prudence _____?, b. 1755, d. 16 Mar 1822, Shepherdstown.  Martin ENDLER was the 1st. ENTLER to locate in Shepherdstown in 1765, when he united with a small group of Lutheran to hold a religious service. In 1769 he bought a lot on German Street, Shepherdstown. He was taxed on 1 pole in Berkeley Co., VA in 1782In the 1787 personal property tax list of Berkeley Co., List B, Thomas Hart, Commissioner,         was taxed for 1 white males above 21,  and 2 horse, mares, colts and mules. His immediate neighbors visited before and after Martin ENTLER on 27 and 29 Sep were: Jacob Williamson, Adam Bishop, John Salter Blew, Michael Byarly, Henery Carbine, (Martin), Philip ENTLER, Heney Frank, Henery Lyne, John Lyne Jr., and John Smith.  John Martin appears on the poll list in VA in 1788. He was ordered to be paid 80 cents for making a bridge on Princess Street to the river in Shepherdstown in 1789. He was taxed on 1 male 16-20, and 2 cattle in 1790. John and Johannes Heiser were part of of the council that laid the cornerstone of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Shepherdstown on 30 Aug 1795. Both are buried in the Lutheran Cem., Shepherdstown. In 1810, Martin is listed in the census with 3 males 16-26, 1 male 26-45, 1 male 45 and up, 1 female 0-10, 2 femlaes 16-26, 1 female 45 and up. There is marriage of Johan Martin ENDLER and Anna Maria BURCHARD on 22 Apr 1764 at Christ Evangelical Lutheran Church in York. Johan may have been married prior his marriage to Prudence. 176.4-Adam ENTLER, d. c1777, Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA, m. Juliana SHEETZ. Adam was probably born in York Co., and died in Shepherdstown, then Berkeley Co., VA. According to his will (Will filed 1777, Berkeley Co.),  there appears to be only two children. 176.4a1fa Charles M. FOUKE, b. c1829, VA, m. Amelia A. VANDERCOOK, b. c1840, OH. In 1850, he was living in  Sandusky Co, OH, with a James S. FOUKE, 26, b. VA, probably his brother. He was a Civil War Veteran from Fremont, Sandusky Co., OH, enlisting on 18 Jun 1861, Co. F., 8 Reg., Inf., at the rank of Lieutenant. He resigned his commission 7 Jul 1863. In the 1880 census he is listed as printer and there is a female Mary VANDERCOOK, age 63, b. c1817, OH, listed as mother who it turns out is the mother of Amelia. (OHSA1, 4, OHSAB2) Children:

    176.4a1fa2a2 Velzoe BROWN b. c1910, NE, resides in Santa Cruz, Santa Cruz Co., CA. Velzoe had a long musical career, playing the piano, trombone, drums and flute. At age 16 she was a full time musician with an all woman group called the Pollyannas. The group played all over the U.S. During the depression the group broke up and Velzoe moved to CA, where she played with the Juanita Conners band. In 1961 she moved to Santa Cruz, CA, where she taught private lessons and performed locally. She formed a group known as the Upbeats, who were still playing in 2010. The Santa Cruz Jazz Society held a celebration on the ocassion of Velzoe's 100th. birthday in Mar 2010. 176.6-John Jacob ENTLER, b. 18 Jan 1748, York Co., , d. 1804, York Co. He was m. to Catherine ______?. Jacob ENDLER of Yorktown, was private in Capt. William Bailey's Co., 1st. Batt., York Co. Associates on 14 Jun 1776. He was listed in the constables returns for Yorktown under the Act of 17 Mar 1777. Jacob bought property from Philip ENTLER on 25 May 1779. Jacob and wife sponsored Daniel s/o Johannes Mayer, and on 5 Dec 1779, they witnessed the bpt. of Elisabeth Bentz d/o Henrich Bentz and wife Catharina. On 12 Mar 1780. Jacob was a private in the 8th class 7th. Co., 1st. Batt., Capt. Ephraim Pennington's Co., York Militia, on 14 Oct 1780. Under the  Act of Assembly, An act to compleat the Quarter of the Federal Army, each class was required to provide one able bodied recruit for the Continental Army to serve during the war. In 1779 Jacob was taxed 26 pounds, 3 shillings, 9 pence for 1 house, and 1/2 lot in York. He bought property from Mathias Zimmer on 27 Jun 1882, for 15 pounds, the eastern 2 feet of eastern 1/2 lot no. 121 in York. Jacob ENTLER of York Town, breeches maker, taxed on 2 males, 2 females, 1/2 lot, 1 outhouse, 1 house, valued at 225 pounds, taxed 2 pounds 16 shillings 3 pence. On 10 Oct 1782 Jacob and Catharina witnessed the bpt. of Phillip Ziegler s/o George Philip and Eva Ziegler, and on 30 Nov 1782, the bpt. of Georg Stohr, d/o Christopher Stohr and wife, Dorothea. On 16 Oct 1804, the estate of Jacob ENDLER of York Borough, with the widow Catherine ENTLER and Philip ENTLER, administrators, filed the inventory of the estate. On the 25 Jan 1805, the real estate of Jacob ENDLER was sold to Godfrey Lehart for 100 pounds. On 26 Mar 1805, Philip ENDLER and Catherine ENDLER, administrators of the estate of Jacob ENDLER, deceased, state that said deceased left a widow and issue, eldest son Philip, Catherine, Jacob, Nancy Ann, and Joseph, the three last names being minors; that he died seized of a dwelling and half-lot of grouns on the south side of High  Street, and a adjoining piece 2 feet (most of the document is obscured from this point). On 26 Dec 1807, the estate of Jacob ENDLER of York Borough had a balance of 91 pounds, 9 shillings, 8 pence. 176.6h John Jacob ENTLER b. 31 Mar 1796, York Co., PA, d. 14 Oct 1824, age 28y 6m 14d, Hanover Borough, York Co., PA, m. Catherine  SWEIGERT, d/o Abraham SWEIGERT. Jacob was a cigar maker, who died after a protracted illness. On 4 Aug 1818, Jacob and Catherine, sold to Jacob Barngett, guardian of Catherine SWEIGERT for $233 he bequest from Abraham SWEIGERT will and testament.On 31 Mar 1829, Jacob ENTLER, tobacconist of Borough of Hanover bought from the estate of George Miller, lot No. 139, in Hanover for $580. On 3 Nov 1824, David Shultz and Jacob Bargelt, administrators filed the inventory of Jacob ENTLER. On the 7 Dec 1824, the administrators stated what Jacob, who d. intestate leaving a widow and children who are minors, and he left a house and lot of ground on York street and a personal estate insufficient to pay his debt, asked the court to order the sale of his real estate. On 3 Mar 1830, the balance of the estate was 155.61 1/4 due the administrators. (PANP1, PAYO12 2H p345, 13, 14 O p397, 3F p40, 3S p383)

176.9 John Philip ENTLER b. 15 Aug 1754, PA. On 27 Mar 1773, a Philip ENTLER petitioned the court to be appointed guardian of his minor children, Margaret age 9 and Elizabeth age 5. By process of elimination, this must be John Philip. The dates and ages of the children do not fit for either of the Philip Adams (Sr. or Jr.) of Shepherdstown, Jefferson Co., VA. (PAY14)
