Thus sometime after Oct 1809, and before 1811 the family migrated to Franklin Co. Christian may have been the one who anglicized the name from the Swiss spelling of KREIDER to CRIDER. For the most part, all of the KREIDER families of Franklin Co. spelled their name CRIDER  In 1850 and 1860 Christian, who described his occupation as gentleman, was living in Hamilton Twp., Franklin Co., with his daughter, Mary. In 1861 he was licenses to preach and returned to PA. In 1866 he became a faculty member of Cottage Hill College near York. He wrote and published several books and started working in the publishing business, eventually owning and operating the business with his brother David W. CRIDER in York. In 1870 through 1900 they were living in York. In 1870 Anna Switzer 24, was a domestic servant in the home. In 1910 Amanda was a widow boarding with George B. Bair. According to York County History, Winter was teaching in a State Normal School in Morris, IL. However in 1900 and 1910 they were in NY. In 1900 Winter was teaching in Laurens, Otsego Co., NY, and in 1910 in Rome, Oneida Co., NY. Alice and the children were counted twice in the 1900 census: on 5 Jun 1900 with her parents in Rome, and on 22 Jun 1900 with Winter in Laurens. The children were born in IA between 1890 and 1894, which may contribute to the confusion concerning the teaching in IL. Since there is no 1890 census, it is difficult to check exactly where Winter was in the midwest, IL or IA. (NYON10, NYOT10) Children:

54.4d David W. CRIDER b. 22 May 1842, near Chambersburg, Franklin Co, PA, m. 24 Dec 1870, Sarah Catherine SPANGLER b. Sep 1849, PA, d/o Nathaniel SPANGLER, from Thomasville, York Co., PA. He attended Lebanon Valley College but left before graduating to enter the publishing business of Kephart, Crider and Brothers. In 1870 the business became Crider and Brother. In 1876 he bought out his brother Henry, and continued the business of printing lithographical marriage certificates and operating a large bookstore in York. During the Civil War he enlisted in Co. E, 130th. PA Vol. Inf., was wounded at Antietam and reported dead by the War Department (a report which was never corrected). When he was well enough he re-enlisted in Co. F, 207th. PA Vol. Inf. He became a quarter-master sergeant, participating in all of the engagements of the Army of the Potomac. He was at the Lee's surrender at Appomattox and participated in the Grant Review of troops in Washington, DC. He was mustered out at Alexandria, VA. David had the unique distinction of being declared dead by the Army Department while he was at the same time receiving a pension for his service. He was a member of Gen. Sedgwick Post No. 37 GAR, York, Royal Arcanum, Knights of Malta, and the First United Brethren Church of York. He was also president of the Board of Trustees of Lebanon Valley College. In 1870 through 1910 they were living in York. In 1870 David was boarding with George DeHoff. In 1880 Nathaniel SPANGLER, Sarah' father, and Jennie Brady 27, a servant were in the home. In 1920 Sarah was a widow living with daughters Sarah and Lillian, who was a teacher  in York schools. Both Sarah and Lillian graduated from York High School.
