STATEMENT of PURPOSE
On this site you will find genealogy material extracted from county biographical sources and census records from the east (Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia) to the Mid-West (Kentucky, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, and Kansas). The project began while we were tracing descendants of my eastern ancestors, who all remained in the 3 eastern states mentioned, and ancestors and descendants of my wife's family who migrated to the mid-west.
Some areas of the mid-west were heavily populated by families from the eastern states when the government opened up land in the early 19th century. Large number of Virginians (therefore West Virginian), migrated to Kentucky, Indiana, and Ohio. Numerous Maryland families migrated to Illinois. One such area of concentration was the northern counties of Illinois, north and slightly south of Interstate 80. So many families went to Ogle County, IL, that they named one of the townships, Maryland Township.
The material presented at this site is meant to be a guide. We are attempting to tie the eastern families with the mid-western families through the biographies from each area (east and west), adding some marriages, cemetery, and census records when we could locate them. Regardless of your purpose in using this material, you should go to the original source and check the facts and acquire data not presented here. In collecting the information, there are bound to be mistakes in the interpretation of the material, and as we all know, the biographical data provided in the voluminous histories of counties written in the late 19th. century may have some errors.
Some General Rules of Material Entry for Family Pages:
1. There are numerous abbreviations; see the abbreviation page if you have any doubt.
2. Information in parenthesis will always refer to the preceding name or names; in most cases, parents of the numbered entry.
3. Burial information refers to the primary (numbered) entry and wife, unless otherwise stated, or is in parenthesis following a name or names.
4. MIG (migration); EDU (education); OCC (occupation); REL: religion; and NOTES refer to the primary (numbered) entry; when it refers to the spouse, it will be so noted.
5. Some entries refer to a remote website. Generally these are descendents of my ancestors whose information can be found at my family websites; MORROW and MYERS Genealogy. Or in my wife's family website, which will be so noted at a later date. At present (Jan 2006), she is in the process of revising, updating, and moving her information to a larger site.
6. Biographie sources should be checked for additional ancestors or descendants of the entries in the Family Pages. In our collecting process, we concentrated on families that stated they were from the three eastern states of Maryland, Virginia, and West Virginia. Many of the sources contain further information and extended families;
7. In the case of Civil War Veterans, it can be assumed that the veteran was a Union soldier. In cases where the veteran fought for the Confederate States of America, the designation 'CSA' will appear before the unit in which they fought. In some cases the units (USA or CSA) could not be identified.
