Search the pages of these sites using your browser to determine settlers from MD, VA, or WV, remembering that WV's first census was in 1870. In the case of Nebraska and Kansas, the first census indicating birthplaces may be 1880 through 1910. Also included in this survey are any special state censuses that indicate place of orgin.
Depending on the person or persons who transcribed the census the state of birth may be in the two letter code (MD, VA, WV), or they may be spelled out (Maryland, Virginia, or West Virginia). Actually, when you search for Virginia using the browser, West Virginia will also be identified.
